Police responded to the incident at Huntingdon railway station at 7:42 pm and arrested a 32-year-old and a 35-year-old man for questioning.
Nottingham Forest was aware that several of their fans were on the train after the team's 2-2 draw with Manchester United.
Marinakis and the club expressed their sympathy to those affected and pledged financial support to fans who were caught up in the incident.
The club statement read: "Nottingham Forest Football Club is deeply concerned and sympathizes with those affected by the attack on the LNER train. Many of our London-based supporters were on that train after the match at the City Ground, and our thoughts are with those who were caught up in the incident."
Marinakis added: "Everyone at Nottingham Forest is shocked and saddened by what happened. We will provide financial support to any supporter who needs it to access medical care and recover from the incident."
