The visitors eventually broke the deadlock with a through ball from Georginio Rutter finding Maxim De Cuyper, who was unmarked and able to fire past the Forest goalkeeper, Matz Sels, from close range.
The second half saw Forest apply more pressure in search of an equalizer, but they continued to struggle from an attacking perspective. Brighton, on the other hand, created opportunities to double their lead, but were unable to capitalize on them.
The match was put to bed with two minutes of normal time remaining, when substitute Stefanos Tzimas took advantage of a defensive mix-up to score Brighton's second goal.
The 2-0 victory marked a fine run of form for Brighton in the Premier League, while Forest suffered their first home defeat under their new manager.
