Reece James scored the first goal for Chelsea, but Benfica drew level with an injury-time penalty. In extra-time, Chelsea scored three quick goals through Christopher Nkunko, Pedro Neto, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to secure the win.
Moises Caicedo, who was named man-of-the-match, stated that the break in the game did have an impact on the outcome. He said, "The break did change the game because the match was almost finished and then we had to stop. That isn't normal. The team stayed focused and we were able to get the win."
Caicedo also expressed his confidence in the team's ability to face their next opponent, Palmeiras, in the quarterfinals. He said, "We know it's a tough tournament but we just need to keep working hard and working well. At the end, we will see what we can achieve."
Caicedo acknowledged that the game against Palmeiras will be tough, but he is optimistic about the team's chances. He said, "For sure it will be a tough game, but the team is going to work hard because it's going to be an important game for us. We have some days to prepare, and we are going to prepare for that game like we did against Benfica, and hopefully we can get the win."
